“Oh no~ reading? No.. please..” This is what I said when I got the assignment. I had to choose a dystopian book to read, and I just didn’t want to. So I picked up a novel that many people were starting to read. “It was a pleasure to burn.” This was the first line. It had grabbed my attention. I kept reading over and over and over again on this same line. It was strange but pulled my curiosity to read the book. Pleasure to burn? How can anything be pleasure to be burnt? The books were burned by firefighters. I couldn’t even imagine. In reality, all that the fire fighters do is to put off the fires on buildings or on nature, but burn the books? Isn’t it strange? They think that the book is the source of unhappiness just because it contained the knowledge of the history of wars and bad incidents of the past. Where do you think the unhappiness come from? Horrible past? No! It comes from your way of thinking. You can look out to future, knowing the past, knowing what’s wrong, and being assured that it would never happen again. I think being ignorant is a great fear I would face if I had lived in the society of the novel. I’d rather be unhappy knowing, than being happy, not knowing anything, according to this book.

The conversation between Clarisse and Montag was somewhat beautiful. They talked about how their lives could be different and something that will benefit their lives. They do not talk about electronics but burning books. They were talking about involves thinking beyond what they know and being able to have a deep conversation. It is just like electronics because it will do the something if they could do the things that they talked about. Both the conversation and electronic are the things that could be beneficial and essential to their lives. Our life is more than being satisfied. The things that satisfied the people in the novel were watching TV, and depending on Medias. They think that those are the only things in their lives but there are more things in our lives. It is more like looking around the nature and gaining knowledge that can actually help them and show the point of life. They should realize the ignorance and know why they were born and be able to live their life with a reason.
They should know how horrible the world has changed. They are not able to think and they do the same thing everyday. They are brain-washed. This is meaningful to me because it tells me that I should believe in what I think is right and I should think beyond and further more.

This was somewhat significant to me because it was the first passage that surprised me and gets me into the book. At first, I was surprised because I was amazed by the fact that her uncle was arrested for being a pedestrian. It is also surprising because people don't talk together within their family. Our society has great family lives and we talk within the family almost everyday. It is different from us because they don't do things that we do everyday. They have a different society and they do things differently. They don't do simple things that we do normally in our lives.
If I were living in that society, I think I would be bored to death. There is nothing special about their life. All day do is watching TV and listen to radio. They have their lives set and they do not know how to go beyond that. I like being adventurous and exploring things, but if I was living in the society, I wouldn't be able to do that and I would hate having my life set.

Most people care about popularity and nothing else. People easily kill their valuable lives these days because of small circumstances. We could help them a lot if we just care about them and encourage them. These small things could change their whole life. We have to get to know other people from the inside. We should not judge other people by how they look outside and how popular they are. We should try and understand other people. Some people are not that good looking but they have the most beautiful minds that you will ever see. People with great looks could give you popularity and make you proud for a little bit of time, but they will not be there when you actually need them. True friends, the friends that you know from the inside and friends that you share everything with are the ones that will help you the most when you need their help.

Captain Beatty was bragging Montag about how books are comples and that he should not read them. As he was bragging Montag about it, they receive all call on his own house. His wife betrayed him. He was ordered to put his own house on fire and he did it. After he set his own house on fire, he was arrested by Beatty. Guy Montag murders Captain Beatty by throwing the flamethrower at his captain. And he knocks his team-mates and runs off. This event surprised me very much. I did not know that he had such a strong mind to burn his own captain into ashes. He killed his captain and he ran away. I thought that he would be just arrested and live his rest of life inside a prison and get punished. This event gave me a sense of what human can do when they truly and strongly believe in something. To sum up, people have a strong mind on something if they truly believe in it and they think it is right. This power is so strong that it will make them do anything.

As technology develops, we get far from written copies of information. We don’t even know the importance of book since we use internet all the time. Adults and parents try to teach us the importance of books, but we children almost never get it.
In the story, people think ignorance is happiness. Not knowing about terrible things lead to a happy life. They banned books and made fire fighters to burn them all. Lacking education, people actually became happy in the fence of ignorance. Do you think it is better to be happy not knowing anything or little unhappy knowing things? You know you can search happiness knowing many things, too.
